About Our Company
The Abstract & Title Guaranty Company was established January 2, 1893. The founders were Murray Haywood, James E. Sedgwick, George F. Skinner and Edmund Walsh. Peter H. Petersen later acquired the company and the Petersen family owned it for over sixty years until Robert J. Petersen retired in 1985. Mark D. Mallicoat joined the company in 1973 and is the company President. John R. Eisenman is Executive Vice-President of the company.
The company was originally located in the Weston Building located at the northeast corner of 6th Avenue South and South 2nd Street in Clinton, Iowa. The Weston was referred to as Clinton's first "skyscraper" and boasted of having the first elevator in a local office building. Following the demolition of the Weston Building during the early 1960's the company relocated to 128 6th Avenue South. In 1996 the company moved again to its current location in "The Lincolnshire" at 326 5th Avenue South. "The Lincolnshire", was built in 1899 as the home of W. F. Coan, a local banker, who was very active in civic affairs. Mr. Coan was the Lincoln Highway State Consul for the State of Iowa and he was instrumental in establishing the Lincoln Highway and the Great River Road through the City of Clinton.
Abstract & Title Guaranty Company is a full service title company providing property information for Clinton County, Iowa including title reports and abstracts of title, flood zone certificates, UCC searches, personal lien searches, criminal searches and escrow closing services. The company also provides the same products and services to Jackson County, Iowa as Jackson County Abstract Company. The companies are members of the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce, the DeWitt Chamber of Commerce, the Maquoketa Chamber of Commerce, the American Land Title Association and a charter member of the Iowa Land Title Association.
